    Summary:

The Armata is a new Russian main battle tank project. It is also referred as the T-14. Its development commenced in 2011. The Armata was developed as a replacement to the cancelledT-95. The whole project was kept in high secrecy. First mock-up was revealed to Russian military officials in 2013. Trials commenced in 2014. The new MBT was first publicly revealed in 2015. A first batch of 12 to 32 pre-production tanks was delivered to the Russian Army in 2015. However soon after the 2015 Victory Day Parade these pre-production tanks returned to the manufacturer for improvements and further testing. Russian Army trials are expected to begin in 2016. It this tank will be adopted, full-scale production could begin in 2017-2018. It is planned that Armata will replace the ageing T-72,T-80 and T-90 tanks that become out-dated.

The Armata is a new-generation tank. It is a clean sheet design with a number of advanced features. It has little in common with the current T-90. Actually it it the first Russian truly new production tank since the T-72, that was adopted back in 1973. Exact technical specifications of the new Armata MBT remain classified.

The new tank is much bigger, than the T-90. It is nearly as big as the German Leopard 2A7.

This main battle tank is operated by a crew of 3 men, including commander, gunner and driver. It is in line with Russian tank-building concept, that the tank should be operated by a smaller crew in order to reduce its dimensions and weight and improve protection. Armata lacks gunner, as the gun is loaded by an autoloader. It is worth noting that most Western MBTs have a crew of 4.

The Armata might be one of the most protected MBTs in the world. It has newly-developed base armor, made of steel, ceramics and composite materials. Also Armata has a new Malakhit add-on explosive reactive armor that is claimed to be of new generation. As usual this MBT is fitted with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems. It has been reported that Armata will be fitted with new Afganit active protection system. It also has a new countermeasures system that reduces the chance of being hit by enemy ATGW with semi-automatic guidance. This new Russian tank uses smoke grenade dischargers of new type.

All crew members are seated in a well protected armored cell. It is separated from automatic loader and ammunition. The tank has improved resistance to damage. It can operate even with penetrated armor, as far as the crew cell is intact. It is the first production MBT with such crew layout.

The Armata is also a world's first production MBT with completely unmanned turret. It is armed with a 2A82 125-mm smoothbore gun. This new gun has improved ballistics comparing with the 2A46M gun of the T-90 MBT. The gun is completed with an autoloader. This tank is capable of firing gun-launched anti-tank guided missiles in the same manner as ordinary rounds. These missiles have a range of about 5 km and can also target low-flying helicopters.

There is also a remotely-controlled weapon station, armed with a 7.62-mm machine gun. This weapon station also functions an commander's independent sight that gives the tank a hunter-killer capability.

The Armata MBT is fitted with new fire control system. It is also equipped with a battlefield management system. Commander's and gunner's workstations are identical.

It has been reported that this new main battle tank is powered by an A-82-2 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 1 200 hp. It is a new-generation engine that is much more compact than previous Russian tank engines. Engine is located at the rear. The Armata tank has 7 roadwheels. It also has a built-in self-entrenching blade and can briefly prepare itself a firing position.

From the earliest stages the Armata was designed to be a versatile platform for a whole host of armored vehicles. A number of specialized vehicles, such as self-propelled artillery system, heavy IFV, armored recovery vehicle, heavy flamethrower system, engineering vehicle, self-propelled air-defense vehicle and other support machines are planned to be based on this platform.

Come on Russia:mad:. At least give us a new update!

The more I look at it the more I like it. Light compared to Western designs with an APS system, ERA and Slat armor, and a large gun that can fire both tank rounds and ATGMs. It has soft-kill systems too to augment the APS.

I don't like is how cramped it seems inside.

Situational awareness could be compromised by a failure in any of the external sensors though, having the crew inside the tanks and relying on automation seems to be a major focus with the T-15. Any failure in sensors could see the tank rendered "mission killed' without even being struck by enemy fire. If a crew member needs to surface they are at risk due to a lack of mounted weapons and ballistic shielding for the exposed crew to use.

Compared to the M1A2 SEP V2, which has several mounted secondary weapons and ballistic shields.

Still you've got to give the Russians credit, this looks to be a pretty solid tank. Some issues I have with its design, situational awareness being the most prominent, but hardly a bad design.

Vaunted Armata - pathetic attempt of Russia to create a copy of the Kharkov experimental tank "Hammer" object 477
Created in the late '80s is still unmatched by any of today's production vehicles. Even now, they look like the future of cars. Kharkov experimental tank Object 477 "The Hammer". The network came across an article which refers to the desire of Kharkiv still implement this project, and thus become the first creators of the fourth generation of the tank.
Work on this car began in Kharkiv in the early 80-ies of the last century. In the late 80's there were the first, rather crude, prototypes. During the '90s, despite the almost complete lack of funding, work continued on this machine. Further information on this car did not come across, it is not known at what stage of readiness it is now.
It is possible that her work is not stopped, but simply classified, and we still see the fourth generation Ukrainian tank. Of those performance characteristics which are caught by this machine, it is known that it was planned to install 152 mm gun (by the way, in Ukraine has developed and demonstrated at various exhibitions 152 mm tank gun) tower in the desert. Ammunition had to make 34 of the projectile. The tank had to be equipped with the most modern combined multilayer armor, and of course, the dynamic protection.
The tank is also, most likely, should the complex of active protection and jamming have been set - "Blind". According to the data, which are caught in the nets, was established in 1500 on the grind strong diesel, probably forced variation 6TD diesel. Well, like it's all that I know on this machine, if someone has some additional information - share. It seems that the much-vaunted Armata pathetic attempt of Russia to create this tank. Well, for the valiant tank builders of Urals until there is only news from Alfa Bank. Alfa-Bank has notified the Uralvagonzavod creditors of the intention to apply to the court for bankruptcy. Earlier the bank has already filed lawsuits against the plant, requiring the corporation to pay the debts of a subsidiary

Russia's new tank comes with a drone
    Michael Peck, C4ISR & Networks1:45 p.m. EDT April 25, 2016

Russia's new Armata tank will come with its own unmanned aircraft.

The Armata has already grabbed attention with its highly automated design, in which the turret is unmanned and the three-man crew sits in the hull. Now, manufacturer Uralvagonzavod intends to package a UAV with the vehicle, according to the RT news site.

So the article says they haven't yet decided, but it can't be anything large given they'll be deployed from a tank.

I'm thinking a Raven type design. These types can be catapult or hand launched.

Im thinking its probably a VTOL system. I think that would be something that could be encapsulated easily on top of the tank and wouldn't take up much room.

That's a strong possibility too. Russia uses DJI-type quadcopters, and has even armed a few with a GM-94 thermobaric launcher:

So they're familiar with the VTOL types. And they're easy to store as they fit into a briefcase after being taken apart:

So this is definitely an option. Guess we'll have to wait and see. *Sigh* I hate waiting:(|Rage|!
