China sends fighter jets to South China Sea island: U.S. sources
China has sent fighter jets to a disputed island in the South China Sea, where it deployed surface-to-air missiles earlier this month, U.S. government sources said on Tuesday.

One U.S. official, however, said China regularly sends jets to Woody Island, part of the Paracel archipelago controlled by Beijing. The deployment was first reported by Fox News.

Woody Island is not very big and doesn't seem to have the facilities for a long term jet base afaik. The Chinese just want to show their superiority at this point. They are doing a lot of posturing and are positioning some serious equipment in the SCS.

Not for a jet, but it will be likely a base for the PLA unmanned aerial drones.

Good analysis. Most likely it will be a surveillance base.
