COPENHAGEN, Denmark, June 9 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II has been approved for acquisition by the Danish parliament to replace the country's F-16 aircraft, the Ministry of Defense reports.

The cross-party measure passed Thursday, which includes funding for the acquisition, allows for the purchase of 27 "A" variants of the aircraft, with deliveries between 2021 and 2026.

    Only 27 F-35s to replace nearly 60-70 F-16 ?

This could a procurement tactic. They don't need to immediately replace their F-16's so they are buying some F-35's in the beginning of the program to get experience with it. After more F-35's are ordered internationally the price will go down and Denmark could buy more.
