The EU parliament has voted on a resolution aimed at countering “disinformation” and “hostile propaganda” from Russia, in a move criticised by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

MEPs warned that the Kremlin had escalated its war of words against the EU since the annexation of Crimea in March 2014, and said the Russian government now “employed a wide range of tools and instruments” including “pseudo-news agencies” to spread its messages.

The aim of Russia’s propaganda was to damage the relationship between the EU and the US, to discredit European institutions and to “incite fear and uncertainty” in EU citizens, according to the resolution.

“As regards the Russian Federation, the situation is now clear. After its annexation of Crimea and aggression in the eastern part of Ukraine, many countries are fully aware of its disinformation and manipulation“, said Anna Fotyga, the former Polish foreign minister and author of the report. “This report, in the course of its preparation, was also a target of hostile propaganda.

“The Russian government is employing a wide range of tools, such as think tanks, multilingual TV stations, pseudo-news agencies and multimedia services, social media and internet trolls, to challenge democratic values, divide Europe, gather domestic support and create the perception of failed states in the EU’s eastern neighbourhood”

MEPs also condemned the Kremlin’s alleged funding and support of “anti-EU forces” such as extreme-right parties which “deny the basic values of liberal democracies”, and said more had to be done to tackle deteriorating relations with Russia.

That is exactly what I call "European freedom of speech" and a "democracy". That have no another arguments against us, and just show their stupidity. Now they need Great European Firewall to protect "euronet".

It seems the Cold War never ended, it was just paused for a bit.

When it was paused? When NATO-supported
radical Islamists were killing Russian people in Chechnja, or when NATO forces were killing Christians in the Serbia?
IMHO it was not paused even for one minute.
Just post-war peace was changed on pre-war. You know: "No more Yalta".

A pause is perceived because of the fall of the USSR, the west had a major victory but it seems that since 2008 Russia is being more aggressive, not only Russia but China as well.

Right now the propaganda war is on full blast,in my opinion Russia saw a strong propaganda campaign against itself after the fall of the USSR with the influx of western culture and thought into Russia during the 90's. Russia slowly built up its capabilities and is now using state run media outlets and strong social media tools to effect the mind of the average westerner. A lot of the opinions and positions represented on these Russian media outlets are legitimate and actually originate in the west but they are useful for Russia. As an example the idea of non-interventionism is an idea that is native to the west but is something that is advertised by Russian media outlets, so we can see that Russian rather than creating pure propaganda uses Western ideas that are beneficial to Russian foreign policy in its media efforts.

There were pause only in Russian answers to West, not in the West actions. In this period there were:
    1) agression of NATO against Serbia.
    2) NATO-supported militants in the Post-Soviet Republics, and even in Russia.
    3) Capturing by NATO and EU countries of East Europe.
    4) Coups and revolutions in countries of our allies.
    5) Exit of USA from ABT-treaty.
    6) etc...

They show, that they are our enemies. And it is stupidity not to answer them. We have our interests, too, and we can protect them even with military force.

It is not a "propaganda". It is just a "warning" or "notification". Of course, you can close your eyes and ears, but if diplomats and journalists will keep silence, our strategic forces will speak.
