Taking place in Norwegian Arctic territories, the Northern Lights will be a visible attraction during much of the exercise, shown here in Sennalandet, Finnmark County.

Both the US Marine Corps and US Army are taking part in JV17. Here US Marines are shown meeting with Norwegian military leaders Minister of Defence, Ine Eriksen Søreide and Lieutenant General Rune Jakobsen, Commander of the Norwegian Joint Headquarters, as well as being familiarized with some of the equipment they'll be working with for the duration of JV17 including CV90 Mk.III IFVs.

The Norwegian Homeguard doesn't have the same equipment as the Norwegian Army, here Task Forces Ida and Lyra traverse snow not with tracked IFVs, tanks or personnel carriers, but on snow mobiles.

    THE PICTURES ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never quite understood why the Marines are always in Norway, why not the Army? Is Norway a launch pad for Murmansk sub base?

@Falcon Marines is there to get winter exercise. They have been there befor this exercise. Being abroad gives them more realistic training. And good inspiration for our Norwegian soldiers :)

DV Day, or demo day as it translates to, exercises are rolled into the larger JV17 multi-national exercise. DV Day activities show off for politicians and military and civil command, who watch from Norwegian Coastguard ship KV Harstad.

You may notice a lot of snow, but little ice. Norway's coastal waters don't freeze, outside of near Jan Mayen and Svalbard Islands. Generally Norway's coastal regions are warmer, even within the Arctic Circle then are its inland areas where inversion and mountains trap cold air.
