WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Land Systems has selected Kongsberg's Protector Remote Weapon station for their Stryker vehicles.

"We are very pleased that our PROTECTOR MCRWS has been selected as the solution for this Stryker brigade. The system is the result of several years of determined effort to develop a system with capabilities and performance required for these types of vehicles," Kongsberg Protech Systems President Espen Henriksen said in a statement.

The PROTECTOR MCT-30 Station is a turret solution designed for 25-50 mm cannons mounted on wheeled or tracked armoured vehicles. This 21st Century Turret with low signature and reduced weight provides increased mobility and survivability. The MCT-30 RWS can be fitted with co-axial machine gun, blue force tracker,, active protection systems and commanders independent Remote Weapon Station.

This 30mm turret really gives the Stryker a lot of punch. It is perfect for knocking out technicals, and lightly armored vehicles. The 30mm is used throughout the armed forces in all branches so it makes perfect sense to go with a 30mm turret from a logistics point of view.
