Updated: Iran shelling inside Kurdistan Region

Iran is intensively shelling Berkma and Barbzin areas in Sidakan, a few kilometres within the Kurdistan Region borders in the Soran district of Erbil province.

A Rudaw correspondent in the area reported that five or six bombs were dropped within one minute Sunday morning and the shelling has scared the local population.

Iran is also shelling the Haji Omeran border areas. According to a Rudaw correspondent, Iranian artillery is shelling Doli Alana, Rash Harman and Kuna Re in Haji Omeran, which is within the Choman district of Erbil province. Two shepherds have been injured in the shelling.

The shelling in the Sidakan area has caused a large fire in the area, where farming is the dominant industry. People are leaving the area and moving towards the centre of Sidakan.

A witness in the area reported an Iranian military helicopter flying very low along the border. It is believed the aircraft was providing information for forces on the Iranian side of the border firing artillery into the Kurdistan Region.

Iran to target terrorists in any place: IRGC

He said on Sunday that the IRGC Ground Forces are resolved to rigorously confront moves by armed groups and terrorists in border areas, emphasizing that the terrorists’ positions will be targeted in any place.

During recent clashes between the IRGC Ground Forces and terrorists in the northwestern parts of the country near the border with Iraq, many members of terrorist groups, including a number of their senior officials and commanders, were killed, Pakpour added and noted that the terrorists were provoked by reactionary states to conduct acts of aggression.

The senior Iranian military commander said the terrorists’ main bases are located in northern Iraq and warned that if Iraq does not abide by its obligations in preventing their destabilizing measures against Iran, the terrorists' hideouts will be targeted at any spot and in any region.

He added that the IRGC forces are fully watchful of any move by terrorists and will give a decisive and swift response to any wicked act.

I can't keep track of the Middle East situation. Are these Kurds the ones that the US is supporting?

They have different acronyms but all communist Kurdish nationalists are from the same root and cooperate together. In Turkey there are multiple ones that give themselves different names but they are all essentially the same. In the end all communist Kurdish groups are tied together. If they need support from external countries they just come up with a new acronym so that way countries can claim that they are not supporting PKK. For example PYD, YPG, YPJ etc. etc. all have the same PKK ideology and see the jailed PKK leader as their own leader but they are receiving weapons from our "ally" the US, they also get weapons from Russia. US helps KRG too but they are good partners with Turkey and I think even Iran had good economic relations with them.

There are not only communist Kurdish groups existing, there are also highly religious groups and some moderate groups. Not all Kurds want independence from their home countries. Unfortunately in the Western media these groups are all over simplified and when we hear Kurdish they only think about anti Turkish groups. Last year in Turkey when there were riots in the South East much of the fighting was between different Kurdish political groups. Even now after recent conflicts in Eastern Turkey HDP (PKK party in Turkish Parliament) will have a tough time winning votes. People are waking up.

It could be a rogue element from the Kurdish groups.

    -------

Atilla gave some good insight into the makeup of various Kurdish groups, after reading that I got to brainstorming on our Syria-Iraq-Kurdish policy. If there are alternate groups to communist Kurds like the PYD then why are supporting the communists and not the non communists? Couldn't we have helped a moderate Kurdish group in Syria early on? Arn't the communist groups controlled by Russia? They were probably founded by the KGB back in the Cold War to use against NATO Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The only group able to fight ISIS or Assad is the PYD,the Arabs and the Turkmens are ill equiped ,no military structure and or less in numbers in the future.
To be honest,if you take a realistical look at the situation, the US and our other western allies are working against us in any way possible.
The whole world knows that the PYD is the Syrian branche of the PKK,we have posted many articles and videos from even US news sites, proving this but the Obama administration keeps supporting the PYD.
How can you work against your ally by supporting its enemy?
And how can you accept that from your ally?
I blame it on my cowardess government and especially Erdogan is at fault here,he should have done something a long time ago(enter Syria alone),there would never have been an ISIS and the Russians and Iranians would never have dared to enter Syria.
Our western allies shouldnt be surprized when Turkiye chooses another(east) path then the current one(west).
