Fort Carson prepares for biggest deployment to Europe since Cold War

FORT CARSON, Colo. — Operations are underway at Fort Carson to prepare for the mountain post’s biggest deployment to Europe since the Cold War.

Approximately 4,400 soldiers are headed to eastern Europe for a nine-month deployment, the Colorado Springs Gazette reports.

They’ll bring along more than 2,800 vehicles, including 72-ton tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles, containers, trailers and a few thousand firearms.

The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, began loading the first trains that will send a heavy brigade’s worth of equipment overseas in support of Atlantic Resolve, Army officials said on Facebook last week.

“The Army is now working to shore up North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies against rising Russian aggression,” the Gazette reported. “The centerpiece of that effort will be the 3rd Brigade, which will be spread across eastern Europe from the Baltic to the Black Sea starting in January.”

“The rotations throughout Europe will demonstrate the continued U.S. support of its NATO allies while simultaneously allowing Soldiers to bilaterally train with their foreign counterparts,” according to the Fort Carson Mountaineer.

Its a deterrent so that Russia can't pull off a Georgia in the Baltics. I had some family friends that were in the military and the one ladies husband who was deployed to Georgia was stuck there during the Russian incursion.

OSTERHOLZ-SCHARMBECK , Germany, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army plans to deploy about 4,000 troops to Poland in early 2017 in a demonstration of strength aimed at Russia, a senior U.S. military official said.

Lt. Gen. Frederick Hodges, commander of U.S. Army Europe, said Tuesday the personnel would arrive in Germany and then be transferred to Poland. He made his remarks Tuesday at an army logistics school in Osterholz-Scharmbeck in northern Germany. He said northern Germany would be a logistics hub for U.S. troops deploying to Central and Eastern European countries.

The placement of troops in Poland, part of NATO's Atlantic Resolve operation, is meant to secure peace in Europe and offer a show of strength to Russia, Hodges added. An armored brigade of the U.S. military, currently in Colorado, will also be sent to Poland.

In Georgia there were Georgian Forces that attack South Osetia, and kill Russian civilians and peacekeepers.
So, to prevent Geargian scenario you need to prevent Baltic attack on Russia or Belarus'. And for this goal you need not army, but inteligence and diplomatic.

STUTTGART, Germany — The U.S. Army began unloading tanks and other weaponry in the German port of Bremerhaven Friday, marking the arrival of the first wave of gear that will support the rotation of an armored brigade in Europe.

Over the next several days, the equipment will be offloaded and moved by rail, commercial lines and convoy into staging sites in Poland.

The arrival of the military hardware and troops from the Fort Carson-based 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division marks the start of the first full-time presence of a tank brigade in Europe since the last armored units on the Continent were inactivated several years ago.

    article continues below

For U.S. Army Europe, the arrival of the heavy brigade is a culmination of a steady build up that commenced in the wake of Russia’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula, a move that sparked new security fears in Europe.

But will the tanks be ordered to attack when Russia comes in or will they sit tight at their bases? Basically if the deterrent fails what will happen?

Agreed, the deployment did take a while but now you guys will stay away from the Baltics.

Russia will never get Alaska, if you have ever met any Alaskans you would know that they are extremely patriotic and like their way of life. They arn't interested in the Russian system which is the complete opposite of what Alaska is all about. Alaskans get free money from the government and a portion of their oil revenues, they also get a lot of TV shows |Snaphappy|

California will never leave the union, it is legally impossible. The max that can happen in California is the state splitting up.
