Pakistan’s military has warned Donald Trump’s new generals that they face a ‘total mess’ in Afghanistan unless the US and UK can halt the advance of IS and the Taliban.

In an interview with the Telegraph, a senior Pakistani army source said the collapse in security since the draw-down of Western troops from Afghanistan meant the West now faced ‘losing control’.

If IS and the Taliban continued to gain strength, he added, it could tempt Russia to stage a Syrian-style intervention, this time on the pretext of protecting its ‘backyard’ in Central Asia.

The source within the Pakistani army said that in recent weeks, high-level discussions had taken place with both Resolute Support Mission commander Gen John Nicholson and James Mattis, the retired US general appointed by Mr Trump as Secretary of Defence.

Gen Nicholson himself admitted last month that Afghan forces were now in a stalemate against a resurgent Taliban. The Pakistani source said even that was an optimistic assessment.

“A stalemate is still a win for the Taliban,” he said. “We have told Gen Mattis that Afghanistan is slipping out of control, and that if things are not put right, America will have a huge crisis on its hands. “Da’ish is also developing there, and if they leave Syria and Iraq, the next place for them to gather in is Afghanistan.”

Pakistan has criticised the Kabul government for not doing enough to seal its side of the Afghan border, from where Islamabad says militants are now launching attacks on both Pakistani and Afghan soil.

However, Islamabad admits that Kabul is limited by the capabilities of the Afghan National Army.

“There are 350,000 troops in the Afghan army, but only about 20,000 are capable of combat missions,” said the Pakistani military source.

“They also have about 1,000 generals, most of whom are appointed because of their tribal affiliations rather than on merit. The problem is that you can’t teach a donkey to gallop.”

The military source added that Russia feared the West was using IS as a “plot to destabilise its backyard”, and could use it as an excuse to extend military operations into Afghanistan.

Last month, Russia held a conference for regional powers on Afghanistan, signalling what could be the opening stages of such a strategy.

The summit, to which the US was not invited, called for dialogue with the Taliban, which Moscow has already started backchannel contacts with. The Kremlin says the Taliban can be used to battle IS.

Washington believes that Kremlin-Taliban contacts are simply to help Moscow build proxy assets in Afghanistan.

One thing I have noticed is that when warnings like this come out there is generally something behind them. The ISI must know something about Russia's plans. The Pakistanis might be worried about a joint Indian-Russian takeover of the country or atleast its key areas. They could even bring the Taliban back to some extent to rule the country side while they control the larger cities and milk out the countries resources.

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The Khwaja Sabzposh district chief in northwestern Faryab province has accused policemen of handing over the strategic Shahsawar valley to the Taliban.

Abdullah Masumi told Pajhwok Afghan News three policemen conspired to surrender the strategic area to the insurgents on Sunday night.

He said four reserve police personnel were stationed in the valley, including Niamatullah who invited the fighters and gave them the valley’s control early in the morning.

Mansour Ahmad, a police commander in the area, said the three policemen had recently joined the force. They took away three weapons and a walkie-talkie.

The strategic valley was also surrendered to the Taliban a month back.

These are the main issues. Not Russian and Indian alliance. Afghan NDS and Indian RAW is working in Afghanistan to train ISIS terrorists to attack Pakistan rather than keeping Afghanistan secure. UAS is not doing anything against ISIS and Afghan NDS are utilizing American Tax payer money to push ISIS terrorists into Pakistan and If USA is not keeping a check on how the money is being spent inside Afghanistan then Pakistan will have to take actions. This warning is to give a reality check and if ISIS terrorists are allowed to interfere in Afghanistan you know Russia will come in. Pakistan will also go in. Things are slowly getting worse in Afghanistan and USA should halt NDS and RAW activity.

Pakistan had 2000-3000 ISIS terrorists infiltrated into Pakistan and Tahrek-e-Taliban Pakistan and ISIS terrorists have joined hands. Pakistan is currently conducting Operation Radd-ul Fassad and we have killed and captured over 2000 ISIS terrorists with in Pakistan we have the intelligence on this and we are also targeting the terrorists near our border into Afghanistan. USA has to step in here or allow Pakistan. We already have a war on east but USA must stop India in the west from such proxies or this will be bad for us yes but USA will also suffer just like in Iraq. Please don't blame Pakistan that we never informed.

Afghanistan is the back yard of Russia China Pakistan and Iran, no one will allow ISIS in his backyard India is playing with fire. This warning was to tell stop Indian RAW and NDS or Russia will act to intervene in Afghanistan. Russian troops have already reached Tajikistan border and are ready to step in and this info is verified. If USA has no plans to intervene here the Russians will as they did in Syria.
