Aircraft carrier to reinforce combat capabilities of Russian task force in Mediterranean

    Admiral-Kuznetsov.jpg
MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. Russia’s heavy aircraft-carrying missile cruiser The Admiral Kuznetsov will join the naval task force in the Mediterranean soon, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said Wednesday.

"At the moment the Russian task force in the Eastern Mediterranean consists of no less than six combat ships and three or four logistic ships from all fleets. To build up the group’s combat capabilities we plan to reinforce it with The Admiral Kuznetsov-led group," Shoigu said a meeting of the Defense Ministry’s board.

Russia’s Navy has been permanently present in the Eastern Mediterranean since 2013, Shoigu recalled.

the SU-33s and MiG-29Ks along with SU-30SMs, SU-35s in the region will jointly strike missions and provide protection for ships and our forces deployed in Syria, so it is not just about the strike missions.

That seems to be confirmed by the pics the Norwegian Navy and Air force took as well. I didn't post the pictures of the Delta IV here (though I did on another forum), but those numbers seem to be correct.

Here she is for those that haven't yet seen the picture. Actually, it's kind of odd to be sending a Delta IVo_O. Are they armed with cruise missiles now, like the American Ohio SSGNs? Or is it transiting as a deterrent, which is why I think that'd be weird, because the range of its weapons can hit any target from anywhere? Maybe it's being pertinently based in Syria? I don't know. Seems like a strange addition to the fleet unless it's armed with cruise missiles.

Pretty damn cool none-the-less, I love seeing Russian boats|Shamefullyembarrased|.

Though I wonder if there's an unseen asset too? The Delta IV surfaced and opened its hatches, showing its payload to Norwegian surveillance aircraft, but perhaps there's an Akula transiting as well? I'm sure the Norwegian Military knows for sure, the Norwegian and Barents Sea are heavily monitored, but I can't help but wonder if there's an attack submarine escort as well.

Northern Europe is happy to see that they are just passing by, they got to see some flexing though with that exercise.
