This will have an effect on the military ties between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America.

And what's the expected trajectory? Now that this case has reached a conclusion will we see a normalizing of US-Philippines military-to-military relations, not that they've been particularly damaged with more pressing concerns, i.e. China, looming over them, but does this signal a prelude to the return of US ships to Philippines ports for long-term basing? Or more military deals including for ships, like this*, to be transferred or sold? Or that the US will allow FA-50s to be armed with US weapons, something that was denied to South Korea regarding the AMRAAM? Or are we expecting a deterioration given the light sentence handed down? How does the conclusion of this case impact the future of US-PN military relations?

Looking back at another case back in 2005, the US announced that the Balikatan Exercises 2007 would be cancelled if LCpl. Daniel Smith was not turned over to US custody as he was incarcerated under Philippine custody.

At present, I read in the news that LCpl. Scott Pemberton is being detained in Camp Aguinaldo which is the GHQ of the Philippine military.

Other than that, it is the left-wing groups that would make a lot of noise, calling for the cancel the 2014 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement

Worse case scenario is that in my guess, one of the possible Philippine presidential candidates would use this for their own purpose - to boost their own popularity since there is an upcoming presidential election here in the Philippine in May 2016, though this is likely to backfire.
