Turkey orders more Cobra II armoured vehicles

Turkey has placed a EUR106.1 million (USD120.8 million) contract for new Cobra II 4x4 tactical armoured vehicles from Otokar, the company announced on 22 June.

The delivery of the vehicles plus related systems, maintenance, and support are scheduled to begin by the end of this year and to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.

Turkey received its first two orders for the Cobra II in late 2015, one of these was worth EUR47.5 million for 82 Cobra II vehicles, support, and other elements. If the value-to-vehicle ratio of the new contract is the same as the earlier one, it would accordingly include about 180 vehicles. In the announcement Otokar general manager Serdar Görgüc said that the company "will continue to provide modern solutions to both internal security forces and to the Turkish armed forces".
