The area that Kuleli Military High School is located on has been used for military purposes since the reign of Sultan Yavuz Selim. In 1826, after the dismantling of Janissary Fraternity and foundation of Asakir-i Mansure Army instead, the area was turned into cavalry barracks. The barracks was used as the training area for the cavalry squads until the 19th century.

In 1845, the Ottoman Army was reorganized and the foundation of military high schools under the name of Mekteb-i Fünun-u İdadi was put on the agenda. The school named Dersaadet Military High School started education in Dolmabahçe Çinili Köşk and continued in the building which is used as Harbiye Military Museum today.

Dersaadet Military High School was moved in 1872 and was named as Kuleli Military High School.

Kuleli Military High School’s building was used as a building for quarantine during the last days of Mahmut II reign and served as a hospital during several wars like Kırım War (1854-1856) Ottoman-Russian War (1877-1978) and Balkan War (1912-1913).
