Yemen’s ceasefire begins, FM warns of violations (Al-Arabiya - Saudi Arabia)

Yemen’s foreign minister expressed alarm after reported breaches minutes after a ceasefire went into effect at 2100 GMT on Sunday in the country, just a week before the upcoming UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait.

“Until now we do not know if the violations were intentional but we will evaluate in the next few hours to see if they were,” Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi told Al Arabiya News Channel.

“If these violations prove to be intentional, we will retaliate,” he warned.

Sources told Al Arabiya News Channel that Iran-backed Houthi militias breached the ceasefire with reports of heavy clashes taking place in the eastern part of Yemen’s Taiz.

Saudi-Led Coalition Says It Will Adhere to Yemen Cease-Fire (ABC News - US)

The coalition said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency that it retains the right to respond to any violations of the cease-fire, but that it intends to halt all airstrikes and hostilities in preparation for U.N.-sponsored peace talks scheduled to take place in Kuwait on April 18.

UN brokered ceasefire comes into effect in Yemen (Press TV - Iran)

A United Nations-brokered ceasefire comes into effect in Yemen. Saudi Arabia and Yemen both say they will respect the truce. Saudi warplanes bombed two areas in Jawf and Ta’izz provinces just before the implementation of the truce. The previous U-N-brokered ceasefire in Yemen ended in January with Saudis breaching it repeatedly.

    Weakened Houthis Eager to Negotiate

Al Mukalla: Representatives of Yemen’s government taking part in Monday’s peace talks in Kuwait say that they have hopes negotiations will bring an end to years of conflict in Yemen citing “important” developments that point to Al Houthi willingness to engage in constructive talks with the government.

Salim Al Khanbashi, a member of the government’s delegation, told Gulf News that there are encouraging prospects for peace.

“I am optimistic that peace talks in Kuwait will bring about fruitful results,” he said.

The warring parties agreed last week to halt hostilities on all fronts.

Yemen peace talks delayed over fighting accusations

Talks aimed at ending more than a year of civil war and a Saudi-led intervention in Yemen have been delayed, as Houthi rebel representatives objected to what they said was continued fighting.

Delegations representing the Houthis and the party of a former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, who control the capital Sanaa, have yet to depart.

They cited heavy fighting and Saudi-led air operations as the reason for the delay in heading to the talks, which were to be held in Kuwait.

"There's no point in going .... if there's no respect for the ceasefire," a senior official in Saleh's General People's Congress party told the Reuters news agency on Monday.

Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal, reporting from Kuwait, confirmed that the Houthis had yet to arrive. He said the government delegation was already there.

There was optimism surrounding the talks, Elshayyal said, adding that neither side had "the same kind of urge to continue this bloody war."

A high ranking french military officer claims that the french military is helping the saudi-led coalition in Yemen with reconnaissance flights and target designations.

Not only by satellites, but also with aircrafts.

And finally said that France is secretly a co-belligerent in the conflict involving the houthis and saudi-led coalition.

France is also supplying the Saudi-led coalitions with weapons and ammos.

Many of the coalition members armed forces are using French Military equipment. These systems include but are not limited to French fighter jets, tanks (Leclerc and AMX-30), and artillery. Along with these platforms comes the ammunition, spare parts, and training.

Saudi Losses in Yemen War Exposed by US Tank Deal

    An-Al-Masirah-reporter-and-Houthis-stand-next-to-a-captured-Saudi-M1-Abrams-tank-1.jpg

    BY MARCUS WEISGERBERREAD BIO
    AUGUST 9, 2016

The U.S. State Department and Pentagon Tuesday OKed a $1.2 billion sale of 153 Abrams tanks to Saudi Arabia Tuesday. But that’s not the real news.

Turns out: 20 of those tanks, made in America by General Dynamics Land Systems, are “battle damage replacements” for Saudi tanks lost in combat.

Even though the formal announcement of the sales does not say where the tanks were fighting, the Saudi military is believed to have lost some of its 400-plus Abrams tanks in Yemen, where it is fighting Iranian-backed Houthi separatists.

This revelation was tucked inside a benign Pentagon announcement of the deal, one that for the most part reads just like dozens of other arms sales approved each year. The announcement does not even mention the conflict in Yemen, yet it gives a glimpse into this wildly underreported war between Arab states, the U.S., and the Houthis.

While the secretive Saudi government has not formally disclosed its battles losses from its 16-month involvement with its neighbor’s civil war, videos posted on YouTube purport to show rebels blowing up Abrams tanks with Iranian-made rockets. A year ago, Houthi fighters reportedly destroyed two Saudi Abrams and captured others. In February, Iran’s state-run Fars News Agency reported that five more tanks had been destroyed.

US Lawmakers Want to Freeze $1.15 Billion Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia

    56d50419c461889a198b45f9.jpg

By: Joe Gould, August 30, 2016

WASHINGTON — Reacting to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen, 64 US lawmakers are asking that a $1.15 billion US arms sale to Saudi Arabia be delayed.

Criticism of US support for the Saudi-led campaign against Houthi militias has grown louder in recent weeks, after United Nation-brokered peace talks collapsed and the coalition airstrikes hit a school and a hospital, killing dozens of civilians. According to the UN, more than 3,700 civilians have been killed during the 18-month conflict.

Anti-Iran Forces Capture Port of Mocha

    yemen2l.jpg

Mocha: Yemeni government forces captured on Monday the key port of Mocha as they pushed to oust Iran-backed Al Houthi rebels from the Red Sea coastline, an AFP journalist said.

The Iran-backed rebels have received weapons shipments from Iran through this port and liberating it delivers a major blow to the militants.

Government forces were combing the port, a journalist accompanying the troops said, almost three weeks after Yemeni forces launched an offensive against the rebels and their allies on Yemen’s southwestern coast.

An official statement said government forces recaptured the whole city, but a military commander in the field told AFP that the army was still fighting the rebels on the southern outskirts of Mocha.

Mocha has long been famous for its seaport where the country’s internationally-renowned coffee is shipped from.

Saudi frigate survives attack off Yemen

    p1692817.jpg

Saudi Arabia announced on 31 January that one of its frigates had survived a suicide boat attack, while Yemen's rebels claimed they used a missile against the naval vessel.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Saudi-led coalition, which is trying to reinstall Yemen's ousted government, had released a statement saying that a Saudi frigate had been attacked by three suicide boats operated by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group west of the Yemeni port of Al-Hudaydah.

Ansar Allah, which is supported by Iran and allied with Yemeni military units loyal to former president Abdullah Ali Saleh, is not known to have previously used suicide bombing tactics

The Saudis should have been able to prevent that attack, at least the ship didn't sink.
