Russian warships: Active in the Mediterranean again

    A detachment of Russian navy ships, made up of missile cruiser the Marshal Ustinov and major anti-submarine warship the Severomorsk have made a call to the Port of Algiers on Wednesday, 15. The visit lasting for five days has become a part of implementation if Algerian-Russian cooperation program 2018.

    As the ministry of National Defence said in its statement, the head of Russian Navy detachment “paid a courtesy call on the head of the national Coast Guard Department” during which two sides held a warm conversation and exchanged symbolic presents.

    A wide and varied programme of cultural and sport activities has been developed for the Russian ship crews, including exchange of visits with the representatives of the Algerian naval forces.

    At the same time the Northern Fleet Commander admiral Nikolay Evmenov met with major general Mohamed-Larbi Haouli, the Commander of the Algerian Navy.

    Two Russian warships entered the water of the Mediterranean Sea after conducting a range of drills in the Atlantic. The crew of the Marshal Ustinov, equipped with sixteen Vulcan anti-ship missiles, S-300F Fort anti-aircraft missile systems performed air drills and checked the readiness of its weapons and systems. Simultaneously the Severomorsk crew practiced fighting surface vessels.
