Sweden doesn't really need NATO membership though, It's a de facto NATO member as is. As part of the EU's NBG and NORDEFCO - Nordic Defence Cooperation - it already is closely aligned and integrated with NATO member states Norway, Iceland and Denmark. Finland as well doesn't need to be part of NATO to be "part" of NATO. They also train regularly to support NATO operations.

Here Swedish and Finnish troops and equipment take part in major NATO-led exercise Cold Response (OK, the first picture is actually from ACE17, but you get the idea)..

And as part of NORDEFCO the Nordic nations regularly conduct joint operations and training exercises such as Icelandic Air Policing.

And major disaster and civil defence responses, such as the NORDEFCO CBRN/EOD exercise Milengex.

Sweden doesn't need to be a formal member of the alliance to reap the benefits of it. Through its participation in the EU's NBG, and likely its participation in a new Common Defence framework that's being debated right now, and as part of NORDEFCO both Sweden and Finland are so closely aligned with and integrated into NATO that they're members without formally signing the paperwork.

@Osmanovic , building off of what @Technofox has explained Russia already has them sighted in. Its clear who Sweden would side with, they wouldn't allow full Russian dominance in the Baltic.

Sure. Also they don't want full US-dominance in Baltic. They wanna be dominators by themselves. And one of the easiest ways to achieve this goal - be Neutral in the big NATO-ODKB war.
